 2022 Preview 


       Houston Academy completed the 2021 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region two, the Raiders earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Houston Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Catholic Montgomery by a score of 56-7.

       It marked the first time since the 2018 season that the Raiders qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Houston Academy has gone a combined 53-69. Their 43.4% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 3A over the past twelve seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Houston Academy has managed to compile a record of 144-118. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 3A and 143rd in the AHSAA.




       The Raiders are led by head coach Eddie Brundidge who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Houston Academy. The Raiders saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Brundidge arrived. Under his direction the Raiders have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Brundidge.

       Coach Brundidge's overall record as a head football coach in seven season stands at 25-48 (34.2%). Over the course of his career, Coach Brundidge's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

       The Houston Academy Raiders will play in Class 3A region two during the 2022 season.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. The Raiders should be in contention for a playoff spot in region two this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game.

       The Raiders open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Wicksburg on Friday, August 19 at Westgate Park. Last year the Wicksburg Panthers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 3A region two. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Trinity by a score of 51-23.

       Houston Academy and Wicksburg have met a total of 47 times on the football field. The Raiders have a 26-21-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2021 with Wicksburg winning by a score of 23-14.

       Houston Academy returns 3A All-State Senior receiver Will Wells. He was named to the second team last season.
